Afternoon Delights

More evidence that Japan is home to the most advanced civilization on the face of the planet: while Western kids were raised on a steady diet of Scooby Doo, Groovie Goolies and Everything's Archie, Japanese pre-teens were fed a healthy blend of panty shots and lingerie scenes via the popular media.

Chargeman Ken

Yes, it's all completely true: back in the late sixties, Japanese audiences were treated to scenes like this literally every day after school. Japanese Animation (anime, for the uninitiated) had a long history of fan service, particularly where young female characters were concerned. As the years wore on, the cartoons became increasingly more risque, leading to impromptu stripteases in shows like Cutie Honey (1973) and Majokko Megu Chan (1974).

Sure beats the heck out of Sabrina the Teenaged Witch, doesn't it? All kidding aside however, it's worth noting that live action panchira was extremely popular on Japanese TV, so the transition to anime was probably inevitable. Despite periodic outcries from P&T groups and child welfare advocates, the trend caught on and soon became a staple of the cartoon industry. In the space of thirty years, fan service went from this in 1970:

Gakko No Kaidan

Viewed as cute and harmless (if a little risque), shows like Gakko No Kaidan and Read Or Die were aimed at a young demographic, mainly adolescents and middle-schoolers. Most of the humor was family friendly; kids could laugh at the jokes while their parents smiled at the frequent innuendos.

Post War Cheesecake

 

Katy Keene in her "undies." Despite its squeaky-clean reputation, Archie Publications could get pretty steamy during the pre-code era. While the character was aimed at a predominately female audience, most stories contained a generous amount of cheesecake, usually in the form of Katy getting changed. Readers often submitted designs for the characters' clothing; evidently the strip had a devoted male following as well.

Eight years before Marilyn Monroe's iconic scene in The Seven Year Itch, Katy Keene found herself fighting the gale for close on six pages. The strip's creator, Bill Woggon, frequently "spiced up" the action with pin up pages and mild innuendo from time to time (well, practically every issue TBH). 

"Fanservice" elements were less common in other titles, though they managed to sneak in under the radar from time to time. Billed as "America's Typical Teenaged Girl," Ginger Snapp was a female version of Archie Andrews, complete with bright red hair and oddball supporting cast - although the similarities seem to have ended there. Unlike her better-known counterpart, Ginger occasionally treated her readers to gratuitous lingerie shots, complete with lacy black underwear and thigh-length suspender stockings.

Last (and possibly least) we have Owen Fizgerald's Moronica. Published by AGC in the early 50s, Moronica (yes, that was apparently her real name) was portrayed as ditzy, naive and accident-prone, ie a stereotypical "Dumb Dora" played exclusively for laughs. Appearing mainly in the back pages of Dizzy Dames (a more subtle title cannot be conceived), the strip ran for less than a year before its cancellation in June 1953. Strangely enough, the idea of an airhead blonde losing her clothes at the drop of a hat didn't catch on too well at the time. Guess there's just no accounting for taste.

Garters Galore!

And now for another (in)famous chase scene from The Benny Hill Show! By the end of the eighties, the starring cast must have been stripped down to their underwear in every manner humanly possible, but apparently, the Old Reprobate still had a few tricks up his sleeve.

 

 

 

 

This 1986 closing sketch finished with Benny fleeing through the Dimpton countryside with the obligatory Traffic Wardens in hot pursuit. Inevitably, a chance encounter with a barbed wire fence leaves the girls in nothing but their bras and knickers, at which point the tables abruptly turn and the WPCs find themselves sprinting half-naked through the woods.

 

 

On the run again...

 

The skit appears to have been a fun shoot for everybody concerned; evidently the girls found running around in their stockings and garters as much of a thrill as we do. Interestingly, the scene posted above originally had the closing credits rolling over the action. We'd be very interested to know how they removed the titles for this animated gif. It seems to have been lifted from an old video compilation (as opposed to DVD), maybe there's an alternate source concealed somewhere on the net :)

Tiffany Jones

 

More gratuitous lingerie shots from Pat Tourret's Tiffany Jones. Initially published in London's Daily Sketch, this beautifully illustrated British 'strip' followed the time-honoured tradition established by Norman Pett's Jane (ie featuring the title character in her underwear as often as possible). Strangely enough, cheesecake scenes from the strip are somewhat rare on the internet, though they occasionally turn up on ebay and similar auction sites.

Club Dance

Rule number one: you DON'T talk about Club Dance!!

Well...actually, you do. We came across these clips during a routine Youtube search; they seem to date from the mid 90s, featuring a troupe of 'urban cowboys' line-dancing for the caneras. The venue was most probably the Wild Horse Saloon, a popular nightspot based in downtown Nashville. Serving as the backdrop for the eponymous Club Dance of the title, the televised floorshows lasted around 45 minutes, complete with live music, dance contests, and low angle shots of the girls twirling across the stage.

Youtuber Dave Anderson appears to have uploaded hundreds of short videos to his YT channel, ranging in length from 13 seconds to three minutes. The resolution isn't too bad considering the source material is well over twenty years old. Our thanks to the inimitable Mr Anderson for his painstaking efforts - by our count, he must've edited well over 500 individual vidclips so far!

The Wages of Sin

  

...are a nice, long spanking on the panties (needless to say, the debt seems to have been paid in full). Despite the low resolution and amateur production values, the performances are surprisingly naturalistic; both actors 'sell' their roles as angry parent and remorseful daughter to near-perfection.

Up To His Old Tricks Again...

Yes, Benny Hill will do literally anything to meet a pretty girl. In this 'silent movie' sketch, Benny dresses up as an old maid then finds himself alone in a room with four sweet young things (apologies for the grainy screencaps):

Mind Control!

Yeah, the girls in these two clips are most likely payed actors, but the idea of post-hypnotic striptease is the proverbial dream come true. Both vids are filmed in the quasi-documentary style common to reality TV; apologies once more for the low resolution in the second vid.

The April Show 1

Our good friend Tisa has produced another spectacular animation featuring our favorite cancaneuses, the first of four scheduled for release throughout April. As always, the video includes some exceptional choreography and camerawork, along with a healthy dose of bottom-smacking for each of the girls.

Incomparable

Way back in the early 90s, the incomparable Monica Fraga was considered one of the most beautiful models in all of Latin America. During this classic guest appearance on (I think) Ney Gonçalves Dias, the former Brazilian Playmate agreed to take part in a body painting demonstration, which - naturally enough - required that she strip down to her lingerie before a studio audience.

As far as I can tell, Ney Gonçalves Dias - ostensibly a 'news & views' program - featured regular stripteases by well-know female celebrities. During the show's closing credits, the girls would dance before the cameras in their bare knickers, apparently their sole reason for being on the show in the first place. I managed to dig up a few examples on youtube; unfortunately, the resolution leaves a little to be desired (some of the VHS sources are nearly thirty years old).

Baile de la seducción

The time-honored Latin tradition of Baile de la seducción (Dance of Seduction) has a history dating back well over a century, originating in the portside taverns of Argentina and Uruguay. Traditionally, the dance was performed by mixed couples seeking to express their unabashed devotion for one another (the Tango being a prime example), but fortunately for us, the Baile is now more often the provenance of hot young girls in their underwear.

Ecuadorian variety show Vamos Con Todo featured a plethora of models voguing in their designer lingerie, as was the case with Kathryn Arbenz (see above) shedding her inhibitions to the tune of Mancini's Pink Panther. Judging by this clip, the show's female guests loved modeling their intimates in front of the camera.

Interesting side note: at the end of her number, Ms Arbenz was offered a satin robe to cover her modesty. For some inexplicable reason, the crowd strenuously objected to this gratuitous concealing of the underwear, chanting "ROPA! ROPA!" at the top of their lungs. Duly impressed by the crowd's obvious enthusiasm, Kathryn capitulated to their demands, apparently spending the rest of the episode in her bra and panties.
